With the onset of the new Enterprise Software Company, Micro Focus, Vivit has the opportunity to grow and serve the legacy Micro Focus customers. One of their flagship product lines includes the 60-year-old COBOL application development language.
To engage these users, and with the help of some key champions, Vivit is introducing a Special Interest Group around COBOL. This COBOL SIG will be lead by our newest Vivit Leader, Jerome Rose with Infosys. Jerome has over 25 years of experience as a mainframe Cobol developer/analyst and more recently as a Business Systems Analyst in a distributed platform. He has interacted with many clients across markets but will share his experience in two key areas; health care and finance. Also, Jerome has the support from key contributors at Micro Focus; Derek Britton, Global Product Director for Application Modernization, Ed Airey, Director Product Marketing and Paula Barker, Marketing Manager.
You might ask, “But is COBOL still relevant?”
Core business applications, often COBOL-based, are the lifeblood of organizations. Thriving in a competitive digital landscape means transforming the systems hosting core business processes. Micro Focus enables this transformation with the lowest cost and risk, through a comprehensive solution across three key pillars of modernization:
- Application: Extend application value with low-risk innovation. From a modernized, secure web and mobile experience, to process automation, to APIs, web services, and managed code models that support composite application delivery.
- Process: Match enterprise application delivery speed to today’s required pace of change. Achieve DevOps-ready rapid application understanding, agile development, continuous testing, accelerated delivery, and controlled user access.
- Infrastructure: Achieve flexibility, security, and cost-efficiency by deploying applications across host, server, Cloud, and mobile, insulating valued IT systems from infrastructure changes while assuring access security, governance, and data protection controls.
The Vivit COBOL SIG will help users with these transformations by sharing best practices in our ongoing webinars. Join us for our first COBOL SIG webinar on Wednesday, November 20th at 12:00 pm CST.
