Following on from my prior blog on “Discover the New,” in Berlin Micro Focus vision was clear, exactly a year on today the messaging has evolved.

Driving the ‘Digital Transformation’ journey was no longer just C-suite discussion around ‘Agility’, ‘Speed’, ‘Cost’ and most importantly ‘Pivoting’. However, when it came down to ‘just doing it’ the ‘People’, ‘Process’ and ‘Technology’ was not just ‘not ready’. The question is ‘are you really ready’ now?

The question is was ‘Digital Transformation’ really a necessary evil? What companies were doing that was so wrong that they needed to fundamentally ‘Change’. If you asked the research communities a few years ago, what the IT landscape should look like by 2020? I’m pretty sure they would have predicted something very different.

This year the messaging has evolved to more ‘Don’t Panic.’ It is more around leveraging your investment, not throwing everything away and starting again. I strongly believe this holds true when it comes to ‘tooling’, the temptation to switch to something ‘shiny and new’ or free, over something ‘proven and enterprise-grade’ with an associated cost.

The adoption of open-standards/open-source is essential for the success towards failing fast and learning rapidly. They also need to provide enterprise scale (not just SaaS’fy or cloud support), more importantly the capabilities within the ITOM realm of operational site reliability (i.e., OpsDev) and chaos engineering (i.e., systemic failure).

When I spoke with Jerome the CTO, this last time last year, his biggest challenge was how to build the ability to provide insight across ‘toolchains’ for heritage products, this ability to have a single plane of glass to apply predictive analytics technologies within the ADM, ITOM & Security stacks (i.e. common data store/schemas).

My question for Micro Focus was this year, with them starting to offer cognitive technologies such as ‘Predictive Analytics’ platforms across the stack (such as Vertica). How do they plan to also support organisations building Enterprise A.I platforms (GATED.AI) and next generation technologies (such as GraphDB / TensorFlow / Kafka) and the associated process and methodologies within the ‘toolchains’ to support Intelligence Operations (AIOps).
