Derek Giedd

Last month, we shared that we have new leadership for the SIG Project and Portfolio Management Special Interest Group, Abraham Delgado and Derek Giedd. We would like to introduce you to Derek who has over 40 years of IT experience. His first 15 years were with the U.S. Air Force developing automatic test equipment software, serving as the project manager for Operational Software maintenance and leading software process improvement activities that resulted in both CMM Level V and ISO 9001 certifications. He has also been a project manager for Equifax and a business process improvement manager for Equant and the Atlanta Journal Constitution (AJC). While at the AJC he helped select Microfocus (formerly HPE) Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) as the primary tool for project and portfolio management. Derek has been both a user of PPM and a developer since 2006. After leaving the AJC, he continued his PPM roles at MARTA, Scholastic Books and most recently at Cox Communications, Inc.

Derek has experience in all aspects of the software lifecycle including Analysis, Design, Development, Testing, Process Improvement, and Project Management. He has developed PPM solutions using the Demand Management, Project Management, Program Management, Portfolio Management, Time Management, and Deployment Management modules. He also has developed custom interfaces to the PPM Oracle database from other systems and with MS Office applications.
