Please join us for a good steak (or vegetarian dish) and the 2018 Summer Seattle Vivit Chapter meeting July 19th 12:00pm to 2:30pm. The event, hosted by Micro Focus, will be held at one of the Eastside’s most premier Steakhouses, El Gaucho in downtown Bellevue. The restaurant has been a staple in the Pacific Northwest for decades and we are pleased to offer their delightful culinary creations while we learn and share information with our Greater Seattle Area peers. For this event we have two very interesting topics from the DevSecOps world and will focus on what is it and what it looks like. We'll touch on each role within the DevOps lifecycle and understand how Security testing plays an integral part in the whole ecosystem. A complimentary Lunch will be provided as well as a complimentary happy hour following the meeting. Don't miss this opportunity to learn and network with your fellow PNW technology professionals! Agenda: 11:30 – 12:10pm Registration/Networking/Appetizers 12:10pm Place Lunch Orders 12:15 – 1:15 pm Topic 1 – How MF Octane Fits into the DevOps World 1:15 – 2:30 pm Topic 2 – Securing Code by Building Security into DevOps Environments 2:30 – 4:00pm Complimentary Happy Hour/Q&A/RoundTable/Networking Presentations: Topic #1: Organizations today are recognizing the complexity their enterprise application portfolio brings, especially when managing a few to even hundreds of projects. This process needs to scale across small and large teams alike. These teams need to be able to support a mix of development methodologies that make up the portfolio at any given time, while ensuring quality in code builds and continuous automated test management. Join us to learn how our development team leveraged ALM Octane, Open Source tools, and a DevOps philosophy to develop a software solution for a prominent bank on the East Coast. Presenter: Scott Meyers Scott Meyers, is a Senior Solution Architect who specializes in the Software Development Lifecycle. He enjoys the challenge of solving complex QA problems using Micro Focus tools as well as open source. Scott has extensive experience in automation ranging from QA/Test automation leveraging UFT, LeanFT, and Selenium as well as automated deployment and release tools like Ansible, Chef, and Puppet. Topic #2: With public widespread breaches in cross-pillar organizations ranging from banking to home goods, it’s no question that security is at the top of everyone’s mind. According to the Department of Homeland Security 90% of security incidents originate at the application layer, yet many organizations place application security as an afterthought. The life of a software developer today is challenging; Developers are responsible for ever growing numbers of applications, shorter deadlines, and constant demand for new features and functionalities. Add to that the increased complexity of threats and it’s no wonder security takes a back seat. Historically, the approach to application security has been reactive, catching up to and chasing threats after they have occurred. This approach is ineffective and expensive. Join us to learn the right approach, proactively securing your code across the entire software development life cycle in a way that limits impact for all involved. Presenter 1: Carl Sohocki Carl Sohocki is a Solutions Architect and joins us from Fortify, where he has helped customers with varying environments across the United States and Canada implement application security programs from the ground up. Fortify is the leading Application Security company in the world, with 18 uninterrupted years as the leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant, an independent third-party review board. Fortify prides itself in securing such organizations as Sony, Delta, SAP, British Gas, and Fico.
